If Nothing Changes, Where Will You Be on December 31?
DECEMBER IS COMING ANYWAY
Last week, I spoke with a candidate who told me:
“I can’t believe it’s already June.”
I hear this sentence every year.
June arrives.
People look at their goals from January.
And suddenly they realize that half the year is gone.
The strange thing is that most people did not plan to stay where they are.
Back in January, they wanted something different.
A new job.
A promotion.
A higher salary.
More interesting work.
More recognition.
Yet somehow life got busy.
Work happened.
Projects happened.
Family happened.
And career plans quietly moved to the bottom of the list.
Now imagine it’s December 31.
You are sitting on your sofa looking back at 2026.
What will you see?
Will you be in the same role?
Earning the same salary?
Having the same frustrations?
Applying for the same jobs?
Talking about the same goals?
Or will something actually be different?
Because December is coming anyway.
The calendar does not care whether we act or not.
Six more months will pass.
The only question is:
What will you do with them?
Many professionals hope things will improve.
But careers rarely change because of hope.
They change because someone makes a decision and follows through.
A decision to become more visible.
A decision to apply differently.
A decision to target better opportunities.
A decision to stop postponing what matters.
Six months is enough time to change a lot.
Not everything.
But much more than most people think.
This is halftime.
You still have six months left in 2026.
Enough time to make December look very different from January.
